SEAI Invites Product Submissions to Additional ACA Equipment Categories
Following consultation on the qualifying criteria for the new categories of equipment announced by the Government as part of the last Budget, suppliers of equipment are now invited to submit their products for inclusion on the list of eligible equipment.
The categories are:
Commercial Combination Oven;
Refrigerated Display Cabinet equipment;
Commercial Dishwashers;
Commercial Water Boilers
Submissions of eligible equipment to the ACA can be made through the online process on SEAI's website. Check out the list of products, eligibility criteria and registration process on www.sei.ie/aca

01.02.10 Catex Planning
The CEA held a stakeholder planning event in the RDS on Thursday last to discuss the direction for CATEX 2011 show. Everything from the venue, structure and layout of the show was discussed. The CEA board wishes to thank all those who gave of their time so generously and the ideas proposed to make CATEX 2011 a success. The CEA will be reviewing all suggestions and we will keep you up to date on our plans for the show.

28.10.09 CATEX to exhibit at PLAN EXPO
Plan Expo takes place in the RDS between Tuesday 3rd and Thursday 5th November). Plan Expo is one of the most important exhibitions in the Irish construction industry calendar.
On your behalf, the Catering Equipment Association has secured a stand at the event and will be promoting the CEA and its members to the 6,000 expected attendees including Consultant Engineers and Architects.
If you would like your company to be involved with the stand and have any promotional material you feel relevant, please contact CEA as soon as possible.

15.10.09 CEA submission on Accelerated Capital Allowance Scheme
CEA has made a submission to the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources on Accelerated Capital Allowance. We have proposed that CEA are proposing that the equipment covered by EFCEM standards (Open Burners, Boiling Pans, etc) should be included on the ACA list. More detail in our Members Area.

28.08.09 CEA Annual Golf Outing 2009
The Catering Equipment Association would be delighted if all members could join us for the CEA Annual Golf Outing, which will take place in Newlands Golf Club, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 on Friday 28 August 2009.
Tee times will be available from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. and a single stableford format will be used for this three-ball competition. All players are welcome!
Entry cost is €75 (including VAT) per person, which covers golf green fees and an evening meal. This is a €10 reduction on last year's price. Dinner will be served at 8 p.m., followed by the prize giving.

18.02.09 CATEX 2009 had all the ingredients of a great success!
Ireland's definitive hospitality and catering event - CATEX - was a huge success with over 10,000 visitors savouring the delights that the exhibition had to offer. The exhibition, sponsored by Bunzl, catered for everyone's tastes and was home to world-class competitions, culinary food demonstrations, industry expert speakers and hundreds of exhibitors from the foodservice sector.
Created and owned by the CEA (Catering Equipment Association), the exhibition is one of Ireland's longest running, with the original event taking place in 1965. Since then, the exhibition has grown in tandem with the industry and 2009's event was the most progressive and innovative to date.

09.02.09 Press release Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food: Minister Smith points to the role of the Agri-food sector in 'sustaining and reinvigorating our economy'
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD today described the Irish agri-food sector as "Ireland's largest indigenous, manufacturing sector that will be a crucial element in sustaining and reinvigorating our economy."
Speaking at the opening of CATEX in the RDS, the country's premier exhibition of equipment, services and food and beverage products for the food service and hospitality sectors, Minister Smith reiterated his commitment to "ensuring the future of the food sector based on our land and sea resources, experienced workforce, reputation for quality and the professionalism and expertise at all levels of delivery to buyers and consumers."

16.01.09 New development in electronic procurement processes
Electronic pre-qualification questionnaires are now available on the government e-tender procurement website. The electronic questionnaires can be used with restricted procedure tender notices, for both those that are advertised in the Official Journal of the European Union and those uploaded directly to the government e-tender website. Pre-qualification questionnaires are the first stage in the restricted procedure process, whereby buyers send out a questionnaire to those organisations that have expressed an interest in the tender notice. On the basis of these answers, a small number of organisations are offered to make representations for the tender.

18.11.08 EU report presents examples of good practice for hotels and restaurants
A new report by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) focuses on the risks faced by workers in the hotels, restaurants and catering (HORECA) sector. The report, ‘Protecting workers in hotels, restaurants and catering', showcases examples of good practice in dealing with workplace risks, as well as giving an overview of policy in the area, and describing changes that are taking place in the sector.

17.11.08 EPA provide Public Procurement Guidance Note for publically funded organisations who are WEEE Compliant
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have provided a procurement guidance note for government departments, state bodies, local authorities and publically funded organisations, who comply to WEEE Legislation and wish to tender for public tenders. 29.10.08 The Hospitality Ireland Conference and Awards 2008
The Hospitality Ireland Conference and Awards 2008 will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin 4, 30th October next Thursday. This event is now well established as one of the most significant dates in the hospitality calendar, officially opened by Martin Cullen TD, Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism, it is attended by CEOs, marketing directors and top management within the hotel, restaurant, and drinks sectors, and their associated industries.

29.09.08 CESA in association with FCSI Annual Conference
The Annual CESA Conference in association with FCSI, will take place on Friday 7th November at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, Madejski Stadium, Reading.
This is an industry event open to all involved in the catering equipment industry. This is a strong business and networking event which you will find relevant and topical.
The speaker programme will be relevant and topical to our industry and will feature professional speakers who are experts in their field. This years theme is Economics, Environment, Education.

29.08.08 CEA Annual Golf Outing 2008 - results
The CEA Annual Golf Outing was held in Newlands Golf Club, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 on Friday 29 August 2008. A very enjoyable day was had by all involved.

28.08.08 New Chairman for CEA
In light of Anthony Cooney's recent resignation from CEA member company, Irish Merchants, Anthony tendered his resignation to the Board as and from the 29th July 2008, as Chairman of the CEA.
The Board appointed Michael Flannery, Vice-chairman, as the new Chairman effective immediately.
The CEA Management Board thanks Anthony Cooney for his work over the past few months and wished him every success for the future.

29.07.08 REACh
In June 2008 the new EU Chemical Regulation REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) came into force. The REACH regulation applies to all chemicals produced, imported, distributed or used and thus poses an unprecedented and costly challenge for Irish companies. The legislation also applies to articles and all involved in the supply chain where chemicals are used. Therefore industry should be aware of their duties and responsibilities

07.01.08 EPA threatens to issue enforcement correspondence to companies not complying with WEEE Legislation
The CEA have been contacting all members by letter, telephone and/or email, regarding the WEEE Directive to notifiy them of letter correspondence sent to Anthony Cooney, CEA Chairman by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), stating they will be initiating enforcement correspondence with companies who have failed to comply with the legislation to date.

A practical half day workshop on Energy Management for the catering equipment and hospitality services industry, run in conjunction with Sustainable Energy Ireland will take place on Tuesday 13 May in Marco Beverage Systems Ltd, Sandyford, Dublin.

05.09.08 CEA meet with Dublin City Council in relation to their Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) Management Programme
The Catering Equipment Association had a recent meeting with the Drainage Division of Dublin City Council in relation to the FOG, to establish what standards are acceptable in relation to grease trapping equipment and ensure that member companies are providing their customers with the best advice.

05.03.08 CATEX 2009 - Book now!
At the CATEX 2009 booking day, for CEA members was held on Wednesday 5 March in the Moran's Red Cow Hotel. A considerable number of members came along to secure their preferred stand location, which have been provided to CEA members at preferential rates. The layout has changed for CATEX 2009, therefore, if you have not already done so, it is important that you contact EXPO Exhibitions to reserve your stand.

04.01.08 Members WEEE Implementation Workshop - Friday 18 January 2008
You will be aware that the catering industry is expected to comply with the WEEE Regulations by end January 2008. With this in mind, the CEA have scheduled an informative and worthwhile half-day workshop for members on the practicalities of meeting the legislation and how it applies to your particular companies products.

05.12.07 Members update on WEEE Group B2B Compliance scheme lobby
On Wednesday 5th December 2007, the CEA met members to update on the progress CEA have made with lobbying for the approval of a WEEE B2B Group compliance scheme for the industry.
Brian Brady, Chairman CEA Technical Working Group gave a presentation on CEA's behalf.
The outcome of the CEA's meeting with the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government, was that we have received agreement in 'principle' for a B2B Compliance Scheme, however industry would have to create the scheme for industry and this solution may take time and money.

Brian O’Keeffe, the new President of the European Federation of Catering Equipment Manufacturers (EFCEM) has had the recent honour to be asked by Mr Adrian Harris, Secretary General of ORGALIME to join the President’s Board of ORGALIME. ORGALIME is the European Engineering Industries Association representing the interests of the Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Metalworking & Metal Articles Industries.

CEA were delighted to support the bi-annual Bord Bia 'Ireland the Food Island: Food and Drink Industry Awards', which were held in the Mansion House on 1 November 2007, in partnership with Ulster Bank.

20.09.07 WEEE Update & Progress
The CEA Technical Working Group have been working hard to help members to comply with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) legislation and advise on the next steps member companies need to take.
Since our general meeting on 10th July, the CEA have engaged with Leaf Environmental and ERP to move this issue forward and explore the options available to enable members comply with the legislation in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner.

12.09.07 EFCEM continues lobby on differentiating Commercial and Domestic WEEE
On Tuesday 4th September, representatives from EFCEM met in Brussels with Gunter Verheugen, Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Enterprise and Industry, as a follow-up to the EFCEM General Assembly in June 2007. The meeting was called to focus on the need to differentiate between commercial and domestic equipment in EU WEEE directives.

The CEA annual golf outing took place on Friday 31 August 2007. The event was very well attended with over 50 golfers and 70 members & guests at the gala dinner.

20.07.07 Implementation of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations for CEA members
A general meeting on the implementation of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations for CEA members and non-members took place on Tuesday 3 July 2007.
All members were provided with a copy of ‘Guidelines to the WEEE Regulations for Catering Equipment Association members', which was compiled by LEAF Environmental Services on behalf of the CEA. The manual explains to members, the scope of the legislation and how it applies to the various products and services provided by the industry. (see copy)

14.06.07 Brian O'Keeffe Elected President of EFCEM at General Assembly - Brussels June 2007
The European Federation of Catering Equipment Manufacturers (EFCEM) General Assembly took place between 6 – 7 June in Brussels and CEA's former Mr Brian O’Keeffe, Chief Executive, Masser Hammond was elected president. This is indeed a huge accolade for Brian and the CEA, who wish him well in his new role as President of EFCEM!
