Pandemic Flu

As this is a constantly evolving situation, for latest figures of confirmed and probable cases both world wide and nationally visit the the World Health Organisation and Department of Health websites. However, the Department of Health has taken the decision to no longer take steps to prevent the spread of the virus and the WHO has relaxed its requirement for reporting and notification of cases. At this point, the spread of the pandemic is beyond a point where it can be controlled or prevented.

We would advise members to refer to the following websites for latest public health and clinical information on the pandemic flu in Ireland.

For the most recent figures of the occurrence of the pandemic in Ireland visit the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) at http://www.hpsc.ie/.

Figures and statistics on the current status of the pandemic are now produced on a weekly rather than daily basis. The weekly reports are published every Thursday by the HPSC.

For advice on the clinical prevention and management of the virus visit the Health Service Executive website at http://www.hse.ie/eng/swineflu/ and the Health Protection Surveillance Centre website at http://www.hpsc.ie/hpsc/.

The Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment together with Enterprise Ireland, Forfas and the IDA has published a comprehensive set of guidance for business continuity planning which provides practical advice on the precautions businesses should take to limit the impact of an influenza pandemic. This can be downloaded here.
